2.Scope of application: Spiral bevel gears are suitable for parallel shaft and staggered shaft transmission.


How to design the bevel gear's heat treatment and hardness:

The appropriate heat treatment method and hardness grade depends on the application conditions of the gear, including load, speed, working environment, etc. If the hardness is too high, the gear may become brittle and prone to breakage; if the hardness is too low, the wear resistance and life of the gear may be affected. Therefore, when designing spiral bevel gears, hardness and toughness need to be balanced according to actual working conditions.


Bevel gear's different heat treatment and hardness range:

1. Carburizing: This treatment method increases the hardness by increasing the carbon content on the gear surface. The surface hardness of the carburized gear can reach 58-62 HRC, while the core remains soft and has good toughness.
2. Nitriding: Nitriding improves hardness and wear resistance by introducing nitrogen to the gear surface. The surface hardness of the nitrided gear can reach 50-60 HRC, while the core maintains good toughness.
3. Quenching and Tempering: This treatment method increases the hardness by heating the gear to a high temperature, then rapidly cooling it (quenching), and then adjusting the hardness and toughness through tempering. The hardness of gears after quenching and tempering can vary between 30-60 HRC, depending on the temperature and time of tempering.

4. Case Hardening: This is a method of heating the gear surface to a critical temperature and then rapidly cooling it to increase hardness. Surface hardness can reach 40-55 HRC.
